Greater Spokane PRSA Chapter delegates to attend 11th Annual Leadership Rally in NYC Several hundred PRSA leaders from across the country are expected to attend PRSA's eleventh annual Leadership Rally, being held June 4th and 5th, at the New York Marriott Financial Center Hotel in downtown New York City. PRSA Chapter presidents-elect are invited and encouraged to attend this valuable leadership development program and Alison Mallahan, Greater Spokane Chapter president-elect will participate as our chapter’s delegate. The Rally provides a unique opportunity to expand leadership skills and apply PRSA programs and services to our Chapter. Alison will also be able to network with Society leaders and staff liaisons from around the country. There is no registration fee for our representative to attend, and PRSA further defrays travel costs for PRSA chapters by providing a stipend of $550. In addition, our Chapter has traditionally added another $500 to cover lodging and incidental charges. This event brings together the future leaders of the Society to provide them with a firm foundation to begin preparing for the year ahead. As you may know, our Chapter experienced a setback late last summer, not only because of the downturn in the economy, but also due to the loss of four Board members, including the current president and president-elect. Though we are fortunate to have been able to fill the vacant positions, our Board members are still experiencing challenges brought about by this unusual situation. To garner some needed extra national support and have an opportunity to discuss success-building strategies and tactics, the Board has decided to also send me to the Leadership Rally. The two-day program will feature leadership sessions on a variety of topics including managing a Chapter board, Chapter finances, membership, technology, accreditation, ethics and student-to-professional transition (PRSSA). Perhaps equally as important, it will allow us a chance to network with other leaders from the northwest and around the nation, and find ways in which we can support each others’ goals. We think our Chapter will benefit from having two attendees at the Rally to help strengthen the Greater Spokane Chapter of PRSA for years to come. Following the Rally our Board is planning a retreat, during which we will share what Alison and I have learned with the Board, and brainstorm strategies for the year to come. This is YOUR chapter, so if you have any thoughts or suggestions regarding plans for our chapter’s coming year or would like to participate in the planning, we want to hear from you! You can contact me at any time.
